STX Next Chosen to Build an AI-Powered Climate Finance Marketplace for Rio Changemakers

STX Next has been selected as a technology partner for Rio Changemakers. Following a competitive international procurement process, the company will design and build the global marketplace’s core platform architecture, data infrastructure, and AI matchmaking systems alongside Luxembourg-based AI practice Bdub.digital.

Co-developed by the Ministry for Environment, Climate and Biodiversity of Luxembourg and the Global Landscapes Forum (GLF), Rio Changemakers is an AI-powered global marketplace that connects international investors with climate, biodiversity, and community-led solutions.

Backed by a EUR 320 million commitment over five years from Luxembourg as part of its Climate Nexus Investment Program, the initiative launched at the UNFCCC COP30 climate summit in Belém, Brazil. The initial Minimum Viable Product (MVP) is currently in development ahead of its operational rollout at UNFCCC COP31 in Antalya, Türkiye, in November 2026.

Directing private investment to grassroots initiatives

While more than 1,000 locally led nature-positive initiatives exist worldwide, they struggle to scale due to fragmentation and low visibility. Today, less than 15 percent of climate and nature finance reaches local actors. The Rio Changemakers marketplace aims to unify these fragmented initiatives into a structured ecosystem.

It does so by serving as a direct bridge, linking global private capital with on-the-ground project developers in the Global South.

In the financial sector, blind reliance on automated algorithms is a major liability. At its COP31 operational MVP launch, the marketplace will stand out by combining advanced technology with rigorous human oversight, keeping human operators firmly in control of the automated processes to maintain transparency and trust.
